Adoptions
Kittery Animal Hospital has operated as the animal shelter for Kittery, Eliot and York since 1983. Any unclaimed animals are available for adoption to the community. The northeast has done a great job of population control and keeping animals in their homes. The local area does not have enough animals to fulfill the needs for pets. For years puppy mills provided pets to fill this gap. In the south millions of dogs and cats are being euthanized in shelters and abandoned on the streets. Hurricane Katrina brought even more light to this issue. At KAH we pay the transportation fees to allow dogs and cats to come to our facility to find their forever home. We also provide them medical care and stress free handling.
How To Adopt
In order to begin the adoption process, please view our adoptable dogs and cats. Once you find an animal that you are interested in meeting, please fill out an adoption application.

We do have a 2 day waiting period for the application to be reviewed, as well as to make sure that you and your family are ready to bring a new pet into your home; it is a big commitment that shouldn’t be taken lightly.
After you meet with the adoptable animal and we have reviewed the application, we will give you a call to let you know if you have been approved, and pending approval we will set up a time to come and pick up your new pet.
We offer a free exam within 10 days to 2 weeks with one of our Veterinarians to go over any questions you may have about your new pet, as well as update any vaccines that are due. If your pet has not been spayed or neutered we do require a $50.00 deposit that will be put towards your surgery here.
